After more than 20 years building motors and more than 30 years in Karting I have decided to retire Viper Racing Engines. This decision is not based on the current economic situation or due to a lack of interest and satisfaction. Business has been great this year and our customers are winning, with many even leading the points at their local tracks. My wife and I are currently expecting our first child, a little girl due the first week of November. Many of you are aware of the staggering amount of hours I dedicate to the engine rebuilds during the late fall/winter time of year. With a newborn during this same time, it will be virtually impossible to complete the workload by the start of the season, let alone put the quality and standards into this type of work. Along with my wife’s pregnancy, I too have some health issues of my own that need to be addressed. (directly related to all the years of chemicals and preps) Everything associated with the business is now up for sale. This includes all of the machinery, engine building tools, engines, new and used parts. Click on one of the four tabs above to see the itemized listings along with some pictures of the items. To help ease the transition to next year, I have asked Matt Hummel at JC Specialty to handle the engine accounts. I’ve known Matt for many years and his work speaks for it self. Since Matt does this all week long, the turn-around time will be very good and the latest technology and innovations will be at his disposal. I’ll be working very closely with him on these rebuilds, supplying all the records and information he needs; such as cams used, spring pressures, carb flow settings, etc. This will also save you some money in the long run as Matt is not a “parts replacer.” Some other shops would typically strip the engine and start over, thus hitting you with an $800 rebuild bill. Matt assures me that he will not do this; he will only replace the items that need to be replaced. Cliff Loss (owner of JC’s) is also willing to help out with this transition. We had talked about some sort of a first-time percentage discount for your rebuild, or maybe a store certificate to be used for other karting items such as tires, sprockets, bodywork, etc. As soon all the details are worked out, I’ll post the information here on this site. I plan to keep my status with WKA and retain my Level II SFI tech license. I will also be available for track support and will still be attending many of the races in the area. I’m not walking away from karting in general, just the time-consuming engine building part of it. In closing, I just want to say “thank you” for allowing me to build your engines for all these years. I’ve had many young drivers move on and excel in other forms of professional Motorsports, and it makes me smile knowing I got to be a part of that. Thank You, Brian Weaver |
